SUMMARY:Community Hand Drumming Class
DESCRIPTION:A relaxed exploration into the rhythms of W. Africa and the African Diaspora. Participants will learn the fundamental language of the drum and how to create meaningful dialogue\, along with essential playing and listening techniques. We often take a deep-dive into the songs of the dun duns and how those parts and the djembe parts fit together to create multi-layered rhythms. Some drums will be provided or feel free to bring your own djembe\, conga or ashiko style drum. $10 requested donation.

DESCRIPTION:Drumming can be a metaphor for any challenge or opportunity in life. It has the power to energize\, relax\, motivate\, educate\, heal\, unite and inspire. Community drumming is an extraordinary dialogue that connects us with our world\, our neighbors and ourselves. Come to celebrate life\, honor the season or simply create some positive vibes in this high-energy\, experiential playshop. Participants will be instructed on the basics of how (and what) to drum in a group and allowed plenty of room to improvise within this facilitated drum circle. Almost anything goes. Drummers & dancers of all ages\, genders\, and abilities are always welcome. No prior experience is necessary or expected. Bring your favorite instrument or share one of ours. SUMMARY:Rhythms Of The Season - Autumnal Equinox Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we honor the Equinox\, a time of balance–when day and night are nearly equal. To the ancients this marked the period between high summer and deep winter\, it was a mjor point in the wheel of the year\, and many astrologically significant structures are built that align with Equinox. This is a time for the second harvest and to reflect on the balance we seek in the remaining rays of warmth as the cycles of the wheel continue to turn. Come to drum\, to move\, or simply\, be. All are welcome. As in the past\, we’ll meet beyond the parking lot for Meigs Point Nature Center. In the grassy field–you’ll see/hear us as you drive through. A seat or blanket is highly recommended. If you have a favorite instrument you’d like to play\, feel free to bring it. A limited number of drums and percussion will be available. Rain/wet weather cancels. Donations welcome.
