DESCRIPTION:For beginners who are new to this style of drumming or those who want to brush up on their skills and continue their journey. We’ll explore the rhythms of West Africa & beyond. Participants will learn the fundamental language of the drum\, rhythmic concepts\, how to create meaningful musical dialogue\, along with essential playing and listening techniques. We often take a deep-dive into the songs of the dun duns and deconstruct how those parts and the djembe parts fit together to create multi-layered rhythms. Some drums will be provided or feel free to bring your own djembe\, conga or ashiko style drum. $10 requested donation.

Open to all experience levels\, this gathering is a fun\, welcoming space where we create music together using hand drums and percussion instruments. No prior drumming experience needed—just bring your energy and an open heart. It’s a great way to relieve stress\, meet new people\, and feel the power of community through rhythm. It has the power to energize\, relax\, motivate\, educate\, heal\, unite and inspire.\nCommunity drumming is an extraordinary dialogue that connects us with our world\, our neighbors and ourselves.\nCome to celebrate life\, honor the season or simply create some positive vibes in this high-energy\, experiential playshop.\nParticipants will be instructed on the basics of how (and what) to drum in a group and allowed plenty of room to improvise within this facilitated drum circle. Almost anything goes.\nDrummers & dancers of all ages\, genders\, and abilities are always welcome. No prior experience is necessary or expected.\nBring your favorite instrument or share one of ours. Some extra drums and percussion will be available.\nAfter 6pm\, the first two rows of parking spaces closest to the building are reserved for tenants. Please do not park in those spaces for evening offerings. You are welcome to park in the third row from the building and beyond.
